Explanation of the symbols
This painting integrates several symbols of longevity and good health until the end of your days:
The pair of cranes stands for long life in good health for the man and the woman of the home. Depicted with white
feathers, they bring harmony into the couple.
The peach tree bearing fruit represents immortality, as does the plum tree, which is in flower at the end of the winter even though its branches do not have leaves.
Bamboo and pine trees are considered to be symbols of long life, the former for their resistance and the latter because of their long lasting needles, which are always green, in summer as in winter.
Cicadas and the tortoise are also symbols of longevity because they both have considerable lifespans (2 to 5 years underground for the cicadas and 60 to 80 years for tortoises).
The calligraphy on the bottom right corresponds to the word longevity, strengthened by the five red bats placed around and inside of it.
To be most efficient, you may display this painting in the East of your home or your living room.
